Valerie Marie Miller

July 1, 1943 - December 31, 2025

Valerie Marie Miller, 82, of Frederic, MI, passed away peacefully at Cascades Assisted Living in Midland.

Valerie was born to the late Mark and Lois (Brasseur) Southwell on July 1, 1943, in Cheboygan, MI. She Married John Miller at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Grayling, MI on November 10, 1962. They lived in West Branch and Lapeer before relocating to Frederic in June 1966.

Valerie had a long career with the United States Postal Service delivering mail to the residents of Frederic and Crawford County for 36 years.

Throughout her life in Frederic, she was an active community member and was very involved in her children and grandchildren’s lives and school activities. She had many friends and was loved and respected as a kind and caring person who was always willing to help people in need. Valerie’s faith was important to her as a devout Catholic. She loved music, theatre and travel. She had a passion for life and a true spirit of adventure to see and experience new places with her children and grandchildren.

Most of all, she loved spending time with her family - especially her five children, eight grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by her family.

Valerie is survived by her five children; John (Dana) Miller of Frederic; Pamela (Eric) Nelson of Midland; Tamara Lynn "Lindy" Peterson of Roscommon; Vicki (Brian) Jacobs of Frederic; and Timothy Miller. Also surviving are eight grandchildren; Rachael Britton (Matt), Jacob Nelson (Shawn), Hope Fisher (Chad), Logan Stanaway, Brandon and Nicholas Jacobs, Spencer Miller-Hagerman, and Sophia Miller; and three great grandchildren; Walker Britton, Raelynn Fisher, and Nola Jacobs. She is also survived by her sisters Christine Jungman and Colleen Wyss.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband John Miller, her beloved parents, brother Edward Southwell, sisters Janet Wolfe and Evelyn Crouch, grandson Bailey Miller, and son-in-law Dennis Peterson.

A visitation for family and friends is scheduled from 12-1 p.m. followed by a funeral service beginning at 1 p.m. on Friday, January 9, 2025 at Sorenson Lockwood Funeral Home in Grayling, MI.
