Obituary

Troy Adam Haag, born August 29, 1966, at Fort Hood, Texas, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully in his sleep at home on June 3, 2026.

Above all else, Troy considered himself an actor. He often joked that he worked for money so he could act. Theater was his passion throughout his life, bringing him joy, purpose, and lifelong friendships.

Troy graduated from Grayling High School in 1984. In his 40s, he made the decision to return to school and earned a degree in Sociology from Central Michigan University. He put his education and natural compassion to work helping delinquent youth and others in need. Troy used his counseling skills and personal experiences to improve lives and encourage people to become happy, productive members of their communities.

As the son of a career Army serviceman, Troy spent his childhood traveling throughout the world. He lived in the Panama Canal Zone, Sagami Depot, Japan, Fort Sheridan, Illinois, Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, before his family settled in Grayling, Michigan, in 1980 when his father was assigned to Camp Grayling.

Troy worked and lived throughout Northern Michigan and spent time in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula before eventually returning to Grayling to make his home and assist his parents in their later years.

An avid movie enthusiast, Troy loved all genres, but science fiction was his favorite. He especially enjoyed Marvel adventures, Star Trek, Star Wars, and films that challenged him to think. He was a voracious reader whose interests ranged from Stephen King novels and theater history to politics and countless other subjects that expanded his understanding of the world. He also enjoyed writing stories and lengthy letters to his many friends. Creative and resourceful, Troy was known as a skilled builder, fixer, and craftsman.

Troy loved his family, swimming laps, camping, road trips, and all things theater.

He is survived by his loving parents, William and Sherry Haag; his brother-in-law, Mark Pindell; his nieces, Amber (Will) Fowler and Kayla (Doug) Slater; and his grandnieces and grandnephews, Zoey and Jasper Messerschmidt, Mia Fowler and Alder Slater, all of whom will greatly miss the fun, laughter, and antics he brought to their lives.

Troy will also be deeply missed by his family, friends, and his worldwide community of Internet friends, who knew and loved his quirky humor, quick wit, occasional grumpiness, caring nature, and willingness to help others.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Troy's memory to the Grayling High School Theater Department or the AuSable Artisan Village Theater Program.

In accordance with Troy's wishes, cremation has taken place. A visitation for family, friends, and community members will be held locally at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home. Details will be announced at a later date.
