Robert Allen McCurdy

Robert (Bob) Allen McCurdy, 68, of Grayling, Michigan passed away peacefully at home Sunday, March 28, 2021, after his battle with lung cancer.

Bob was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on July 15, 1952, the son of the late Doris Lucille (Mast) and Donald Coreal McCurdy.  He graduated from Grayling High School in 1970.  He married Susan Marie Bourrie on September 16, 1972, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Grayling.  Bob worked in the construction field with his father upon completion of high school.  He and Susan went on to own and operate many different businesses in downtown Grayling including the Montgomery Ward Store, JC Penney catalog store and working with Susan’s family at the Grayling Restaurant before starting his career at DTE energy and retiring in 2016.  Bob enjoyed spending time with his family, wood working, hunting, and spending time on Lake Margrethe.  Bob was known to always lend a helping hand and put his family above all else.

Robert is survived by his children: Darcie (Jeremy) Bowers of Grayling, Cheryl (Blake) Suhr of Traverse City, and Brian McCurdy (Leah Litwicki) of Flint.  Grandchildren: Gavin and Raigen Bowers, Harper Suhr and Mira McCurdy.  Brother Donald (Nancy) McCurdy of Tennessee and sister Claudia (Mark) Henry of California, special friend Sandy Monette and many nieces and nephews.  Preceded in death by his wife, Susan (Bourrie) McCurdy and his parents Donald and Doris McCurdy.

Visitation will be held on Thursday April 8, 2021, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, followed by a funeral service at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Marshall officiating.  Luncheon will be held immediately following at the Eagles located at 602 Huron St., Grayling.  Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
