Richard Arthur Garrison, age 91, of Houghton Lake, Michigan, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2026, at King Nursing and Rehabilitation.
Born on June 19, 1935, in Pontiac, Michigan, Richard was the son of Burmond and Margaret (VanHorn) Garrison.
Richard was an avid golfer, until a fall two years ago brought his golfing days to a close. He took great pride in maintaining his yard and garden. He also enjoyed helping friends and neighbors complete handyman projects.Above all, Richard’s faith was the foundation of his life. He loved his church and devoted himself to God. Reading his Bible each day remained one of his most cherished routines until the very end. His will be missed by his family, church, friends, and neighbors.
Richard is survived by his wife of nearly 70 years, Sharon Garrison; his grandchildren, Jessica Shimwell, Brooke Garrison, Zachary Cunningham, and Blake Gregory; his great-grandchildren, Domeni Ortiz, Piper Lynn, Winter Pazoa, Julia Pazoa, and Vincent Pazoa; along with many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his children, Rick Garrison, Deborah Garrison, and Tammy Shimwell.
Two memorial services will be taking place. The first at Global Methodist Church of Houghton Lake on July 11, 2026, 11:00 am with visitation before from 10-11:00 and a luncheon to follow. The second will be at First Congregational Church of Clarkston on July 25, 2026, 11:00 am with visitation before from 10-11:00 and a luncheon to follow.
