Noreen J. Harmer, 58, of Frederic passed away on Friday, March 28th, 2008. Noreen was born in Grayling, MI on August 9, 1949. She was the daughter of the late Harry and Edna (Wilbur) Canfield. Noreen was a hairdresser, and then earned a Bachelor of Science degree at Central Michigan University in 1967. Noreen was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes at eleven years old. She was dedicated and passionate about educating and helping others that had diabetes. She previously worked at Mercy Hospital and then Grayling Family Practice as a diabetic educator. She was also employed by Lilly Pharmaceuticals, had her own company called 'Diabetes Up North', and went of speaking tours. Noreen survived a pancreas transplant procedure for several years. Noreen's philosophy was: "Go, instead, where there is no path, and leave a trail." Noreen is survived by Son:Corey (Jennifer) Harmer of Gaylord. Granddaughters: Savanna, Kasondra, and Taylor. Brothers: Art (Joan) Canfield of Wisconsin Tim (Laurie) Canfield of Maple Forest Township Sisters: Diane Willoughby of Maple Forest Township Darlene (Ted) Blanchard-Seekamp of Traverse City Kae (Larry) Blanchard-Randall of Maple Forest Township Janet (Larry) Bancroft of Missouri Nancy (Donald) Lownsbery of Maple Forest Township Several nieces and nephews Friend: Michael Harmer of Grayling. Noreen was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Brent Harmer. Her final wishes have been carried out and there are no plans for a service at the present time.
