Matthew “Luke” Farhat, 72, of Luzerne, MI, died peacefully in his sleep at home on September 10, 2025. He went to be with the Lord after prolonged suffering from multiple cancers.
He is survived by his wife, Marisa Farhat, his two daughters, Monica Farhat-Apotheker (Brian Apotheker), and Rebecca Farhat, his stepdaughter, Dana Becker (Robert Becker), and his Grandchildren, Claire and Freddie.
Luke, as he went by in his later years, spent a lot of time doing the things he loved most, with his wife by his side. He could always be found shooting archery, tying flies, or fly fishing on the AuSable River, woodworking and designing tables and stepstools for his kids and grandkids. Luke was a very creative artist, and a talented musician. He loved worship music and participated in 50+ years of guitar playing at Catholic churches in the different places he lived.
Although he longed to live off the grid, Luke always enjoyed nature through camping and walks in the woods, living in a secluded area off dirt roads. He had a love for living out in the country away from city life and he was known to never conform to society.
Luke was loyal and dedicated to those he loved. He had close childhood friends who lasted throughout his lifetime. He enjoyed homemade meals (along with a nice big bowl of ice cream or a Hershey’s chocolate bar) and spending time with family when they came to visit him.
A Mass will be held on Friday, September 12, 2025 at 11am EST at St. Mary’s Catholic Church located at 707 Spruce St, Grayling, MI 49738. A graveside burial service will immediately follow.
In lieu of flowers, please donate a tree in honor of his love for nature and being outdoors at: National Arbor Day Foundation, 211 N. 12th Street, Lincoln, NE 68508.
