Madeline Bernadette Heckerthorn

Madeline Bernadette Heckerthorn, age 95, of Grayling, MI passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2024 at her home.

Madeline was born on January 27, 1929 to Leo and Mae (Sosnowski) Kaznowski in Bay City, MI. She married William Henry Heckerthorn on July 24, 1950 in Bay City, MI. She was a wonderful cook, preparing many Polish recipes that her family truly enjoyed. She loved to visit her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. While living in Bay City, Madeline worked at the People's National Bank and was a longtime member of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church. After moving to Grayling in 1975, she joined the St. Mary Catholic Church. She worked for many years with other members in the St. Mary Community Center preparing luncheons for parish members' funerals. She was active in the St. Mary Women's Group as Correspondence Secretary. She also led the rosary at Catholic Mass.

Madeline is survived by sons Frederick (Lynn Scheddel) Heckerthorn of Bay City, MI and Terry (Sandy May) Heckerthorn of Mattawan, MI; daughter-in-law Debbie Ransom; 6 grandchildren Matthew Heckerthorn, Joshua (Linda) Heckerthorn, Emily Heckerthorn, Sarah (Ryan) Underwood, Seth (Angela) Heckerthorn, and Katelyn (Jeff) McDaniel; 7 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents Leo and Mae, husband William H. Heckerthorn, son William H. Heckerthorn, brother Alfred Kaznowski, sisters Patricia (Kaznowski) Wojciechowski and Loretta (Kaznowski) Martinski, brothers-in-law Leonard Martinski and Eugene Wojciechowski, sister-in-law Betty (Perry) Kaznowski, and nephews Craig Martinski, Chris Martinski, and Richard Martinski.

A Catholic church mass will be held and announced at a later date at the St. Mary Catholic Church in Grayling, MI.
