Louis Richard Neilson

Louis Richard Neilson, 74, passed away peacefully at his Grayling home on June 4, 2025.

Louie was born January 14, 1951 in Grayling, Michigan to Carl Henry Neilson and Gloria (McDaniel) Neilson. He was the third child of five and was the second son. He graduated from Grayling High School in 1969. During his early adult years, he traveled the world which ignited his passion for flying and airplanes. By the 1980s, he settled down in Houston, Texas. In 2008, he returned to Grayling, Michigan permanently to be closer to family.

He was a man of many interests and, by trade, worked many different jobs from computer repairman to delivery driver. Through the years, he would spend his days driving the dirt roads of Grayling and the surrounding areas to take nature photographs and share them with his family. When he was not roaming the woods, you could find him having a cold drink with his friends, learning to fly small aircrafts, watching NASCAR or Formula 1, and fly fishing in the rivers of Northern Michigan.

Louie is survived by his children Jason Neilson, Gloria (Craig) Neilson, and Emily Neilson; grandchildren, Jaedyn and Nicholas Neilson; brother Larry (Sofia) Neilson and sister Karen (Mark) Lawe. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Doug Neilson, and his sister Jeani Charters.

Visitation is Monday, July 7, 2025, at 10:00 AM until the start of funeral services 11:00 AM at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home in Grayling, Michigan.
