Lloyd was a graduate of Grayling High School and served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War Era. His pride of country, and in the military, were significant throughout his life. He was a member of the American Legion Post in Grayling. Lloyd enjoyed shooting tournament archery with his wife and friends during his many years of employment at the Bear Archery and then moved on to the Crawford AuSable Schools for 14 ½ years. He maintained contact with many of the students from his bus route, who affectionately referred to him as Mr. C. Lloyd and Helen traveled extensively all over the country, including a 1300 mile motorcycle trip around the parameter of Lake Superior. They wintered in Florida and Arizona for many years. He enjoyed the beauty of nature which continued through the years as he and Helen resided on the banks of the AuSable, creating many great family memories while canoeing and kayaking on the AuSable and North Branch. Lloyd was an avid hunter and sportsman. He was a hardworking and resourceful man who enjoyed building houses, making custom frames, woodworking, Corvettes, metal-detecting, and collecting unique items. Lloyd was a die-hard sports fan of the University of Michigan, as well as the Detroit Lions, Pistons, Tigers, and Red Wings. He enjoyed meeting and talking with people, and spending time with his family and friends. Lloyd also enjoyed pool and was enthusiastic in his pursuit of the craft. He played on several pool leagues in the area. If you stopped by his house and had a moment to talk, then you had a moment to play a game with him. Lloyd is survived by his five children; Terry (Penny) Shepherd, Gary Shepherd, and David (Sharon) Shepherd of Grayling, Bob (Gen) Shepherd, and Becky (David) Crawford of Traverse City, nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and special friend, Nancy Cox of Grayling.
