Linda Thomas

March 16, 1942 — February 20, 2018

Linda (Brooks) Thomas passed from her life here on earth to her new home in heaven on February 20, 2018. She is the daughter of Arthur Alexander & Mary Ida "Idabel" (Sheldon) Alexander who both preceded her in death. Her daughter Heidi Taniel Brooks, age 8, passed away in 1989. Both of her parents and her brother Bill Alexander and sister Shirley Lucas preceded her in death. Out of seven children in Linda's immediate family those that we are blessed to still have with us are her sister Mary Scholl from Mancelona MI, and brothers Rev. Art Alexander from Long Island NY, David Alexander from Gaylord, and Rick Alexander from Mancelona. Linda was born and raised in Mancelona, MI. At age 18 she moved to Grayling and spent all of her adult life her where she raised her family, son David (Amy) Brooks from Holt, MI and her daughter Cheryl Veres from Grayling and Heidi. She enjoyed being the "other mother" to Farrell's two children Dwayne Thomas and Cheryl Taylor both of Beckley, WV. Together they have 8 grandchildren; Rachael Ziny from WV, Royce Veres, Ryan Veres, Ben Brooks, Bailey Brooks, Blake Brooks from MI, Cheyenne Taylor and Cordel Taylor from WV. One great granddaughter Mila Parsons from WV. Linda was a housewife and mother until her children were grown then later in life she worked at Schuss Mountain and the Grand Traverse Resort in the Golf & Grounds department where she earned recognition as employee of the month in the first three months of her employment. She loved the Lord and the study of God's word. She was a member of Higgins Lake Church in Higgins Lake where she was privileged to be the Treasurer for 15 years. Linda's creativity was evident in the many things she tried-her-hand-at. She loved doing many things such as sewing, crocheting, flower arrangements, stained glass, basket weaving, canning, and much more. In 1992 she married the love-of-her-life, Farrell Thomas from WV & Grayling. They loved to travel and would take the month of September off and head out for parts unknown and stop where ever the spirit lead them traveling extensively throughout the USA and Canada. Visitation will take place Friday, February 23, 2018 from 3-7 pm and also Saturday, February 24 from 12-2 pm followed by a funeral service at 2 pm at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home.
