Obituary

Laurie Marie Scheer-Krey

January 15, 1961 – April 24, 2026

Laurie Marie Scheer-Krey, born January 15, 1961, in Flint, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly April 24th at the age of 65.

Laurie spent 35 years working as a dedicated car saleswoman, a career that was deeply tied to her family. She proudly worked at the Scheer Motors dealership founded by her father and later owned by her brother. Through the years, Laurie became known not only for her strong work ethic and knowledge, but for her honesty, humor, and the genuine connections she built with her customers and coworkers.

Laurie made her home in Grayling, Michigan, where she grew up and later raised her family. She was a proud graduate of Ferris State University. She found comfort and joy in small-town living, cherishing the close-knit community, familiar faces, and simple moments that made Grayling so special to her. She was also proud to have been a founder of the “Chicks with Stix” golf league at the Grayling Country Club, bringing people together through fun, friendship, and a shared love of the game. Laurie will be remembered for her warmth, loyalty, sense of humor, and the deep love she had for her family and friends.

Laurie was the beloved wife of Timothy Krey for 32 years, mother of Mason (Hillary) Krey, and stepmother to Chris (Jillian) Krey, and Heather (Alex) Perry. She was the proud and adoring grandmother of Carter, Cash, Calvin, and Cruz, who brought her endless joy.

She is also survived by her siblings Victoria Sadler, Bradley (Charlene) Scheer, Kelly (Michael) Fortino and John (Khristy) Scheer. Laurie shared a special bond with each of them and treasured her role within her family. She absolutely cherished her nieces and nephews and held them close to her heart. Preceded in death by her parents William (Bill) and Phyllis Scheer and brother-in-law Ricky Sadler.

Laurie had a vibrant personality and a deep appreciation for life’s simple pleasures. She enjoyed a good glass of wine, never missed an episode of Judge Judy, loved her fur baby Bubba, and deeply valued her lifelong friendships. Her best friends meant the world to her, and she held those bonds close throughout her life.

Laurie will be remembered for her warmth, loyalty, humor, and the deep love she had for her family and friends. Her presence will be profoundly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Visitation will be held at 10:00 am with a funeral service to follow at St. Mary Catholic Church in Grayling on Friday, May 1st, 2026 at 11:00 am. A luncheon will follow at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the AuSable Valley Animal Shelter.
