Larry Dean Hunter of Grayling, age 81, passed away suddenly at his home the morning of April 30, 2025. He was born on April 30, 1944 in Grayling, to Lawrence "Bud" Hunter and Eleanore (Gorman) Hunter.
Larry was a member of the Knights of Columbus Catholic Organization and held the rank of Fourth Degree Knight. He volunteered at numerous church functions though-out his lifetime.
To Larry, family always came first. Having grown up on the AuSable River, he was an avid fly fisherman, outdoors man, and hunter of large and small game. He was a charter member of the “Snake Cup Challenge” annual fishing trip to Canada, where the stories were always bigger than the fish. He loved his pride and joy, canary yellow 1955 Ford Thunderbird, almost as much as his constant companion “Maggie”; his little white poodle. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed a perfectly timed practical joke. His presence will be missed by many in the community.
Larry is survived by his wife of 58 years, Gail A Hunter; daughter Leanne Weaver and her children, Julia Weaver and Marilyn Adams, son Kevin G Hunter and his children, Matthew Hunter, Damon Hunter, Andrew Hunter, Alexandra Hunter, Emily Hunter and Brady Hunter, along with great-grandchildren, daughter Kristen (Nate) Hunter-Ginther and children, Molly Hunter, Brianna Martin, and Nicholas Ginther, daughter Bethane’ Hunter and children, Lucas Scott and Allie Jean Scott; siblings, John Hunter and Mary K Blaauw; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Larry is preceded in death by his parents Lawrence and Eleanore, and sisters’ Jacqueline Lepsey, and Patricia Hunter.
Mass will be held on Thursday, May 8th, 2025, 10:00 am at the St. Mary Catholic Church in Grayling, MI. In Lieu of flowers, Larry's family asks that donations be made to the AuSable Valley Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 384, Grayling, MI 49738 and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
