Karen Luark

January 1, 1942 — February 4, 2024

Karen Luark (aka Gramcracker, Grams, PeeWee et. al.), age 82, passed away February 4, 2024 at the Crawford Continuing Care Center in Grayling.

Over the years, she enjoyed the annual summer canoe adventure, followed by BBQ, campfires, never-ending banter and laughter with friends. Karen was a sports fan and preferred College and High School sports (tennis, baseball, softball, hockey). She was an avid reader and enjoyed trips to the Casino. In addition, she enjoyed “gathering change” from challengers of all ages, during games of poker and ‘screw your neighbor’, at the dinner table at home. Karen enjoyed birdwatching, especially hummingbirds. She looked forward to Sunday coffee with Maureen and Connie Tuck.

Karen was born January 1, 1942 in Saginaw to George and Esther. She is survived by her husband Tom Luark of Frederic. Children: Tom (Chris) of Midland and Tami (Jim) of MN. Grandchildren: Nik (Sarah)  NY and Jessi (Chris Tomczyk) UT. Great Grandchild: Bom. Brother: Jim. Dear Friend: Sally. Karen is preceded in death by her parents, brother George, and sisters Carol and Dorothy.

Karen’s preference was no service. Karen stays true to her fiery self and is being cremated. While her family respects her wishes (at this time), her children will plan a small celebration of life (summer 2024) to coincide with burial of Karens’ ashes. Burial of Gramcracker will take place at Oakwood Cemetery in Frederic.
