John "JACK" Joseph Rasmussen

John "JACK" Joseph Rasmussen, 85, of Grayling, MI passed away on October 8, 2015. John was born in Grayling, MI on November 4, 1929, a son of the late Fedora (Tetu) and Harold Rasmussen. Jack married the former Joan Harwood on February 23, 1952 in Grayling. He served in the U.S. Army as a Sergeant for 3 years during the Korean War Era and then transferred to Michigan National Guard where he retired as a Chief Warrant Officer 4 in 1989 after 34 years of service. He was a member of American Legion Post 106. Jack was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus and he served as an usher for over 40 years. Jack was the best grandpa ever and taught them all to be great euchre players. He enjoyed hunting and loved ice fishing. Survived by his wife Joan of 63 years. Daughter: Joy Rasmussen, of Grayling; Sons: John II (Peg) Rasmussen, of Grayling; Joel Rasmussen, of Nevada; Jason Rasmussen, of Bay City; Grandchildren: Sara, Bethany, Michael, Mary, Marcus, Jess, Devon, John III, Jessica, Josh, Drew, Jennifer, Joannie, Zoe, Lars, Melissa, and Amanda. Great grandchildren; Jaycie, Cadence, Alexys, Adrianna, Alora, Lucas, Rhiannyn, Braylynn, Liam, Sean, Nora, and John IV. Sister: Greta (Ken) Chapp Brother: Roger Rasmussen Preceded in death by his parents; Sisters: Mary, Laura, Jean and Brothers: Lars, Richard, and Robert. Visitation will be held at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home on Sunday, October 11, 2015 between 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Monday, October 12, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Jerry Hunko officiating. Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery.
