Jeanne Marie Thompson

August 6, 1926 — March 21, 2017

Jeanne Marie Thompson August 6, 1926 - March 21, 2017 A little over 90 years ago, on August 6, 1926, Carl & Francilia Hanson of Chestnut Street in Grayling became the very proud parents of a beautiful baby girl, me! Jeanne Marie Hanson they named me and I was to be the only daughter of 4 children. We all grew up on Chestnut Street, went to school together, and like most families with 4 kids, had a pleasant and fun childhood complete with everything growing up brings. In high school I met the love of my life, Sandy Thompson. When Sandy got out of the Navy, after WWII, we were married and made our lives together in Grayling, and had two boys, Randy and Pat. Both Sandy I worked at Bear Archery for several years but just had to try something different so we bought a restaurant in Hancock, Michigan. We soon found we missed home and came back to Grayling to become the owners of Penrods Cabins and soon opened the canoe livery at Penrods; later I spent 20 years with, and retired from, the federal soil service. In the end I had over 90 fulfilling years of life that included two very fine sons, their wives, 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. So thank you to everyone, friends and family, I had a very special life because of all of you and this very special place, Grayling. A special thank you to my granddaughters for their descriptive and appreciated comments and insights I include here: "We lost this great lady today...my Grandma Thompson. She was my last grandparent still with us, and man, does it feel like a chunk of my childhood just chipped away. So many memories. She was a woman who was so true to herself, never hesitating for a minute to tell you what she really thought. She tolerated no fools, but was also generous to a fault, with a huge smile and a ready laugh. And I will miss her. She left behind a pretty great family as a legacy...and I'm really grateful for that. We'll miss you, Mona Lisa!" Surviving besides her children are 3 brothers Al Hanson, Buchanan; Carl Dean Hanson, Battle Creek; David Skip Hanson & wife Sherry, Grayling; sister in-law Joan Miller, Freehand. A celebration will be in the summer. To order memorial trees or send flowers to the family in memory of Jeanne Marie Thompson, please visit our flower store.
