Frederick Thomas Shippy, 72, of Grayling, passed away on November 9, 2016. He was born on July 17, 1944 in Cadillac, Michigan to the late Lyman and Rosella Shippy. He married Balkis Sabih on September 5, 1970 in Fraser, Michigan. Fred served in the US Army, and fought in the Vietnam war, ultimately achieving the rank of E6. An avid outdoorsman, Fred was a trophy winning fisherman, and a very skillful hunter. Fred was a prominent member of the Grayling community, once serving as County Commissioner, and with the Commission On Aging. He also served on the board of the North Central Area Credit Union. Fred retired from the state of Michigan, working at Shawono Center nearly 20 years ago, and spent the rest of his career as a successful real estate agent with Coldwell Banker & Wild Life Realty. He was revered as the foundation of his family, and absolutely cherished his time with his many grandchildren. Survived by his wife, Balkis, of 46 years. Children: Holly (Shippy) Al Kanza of Houghton Lake; Steven Shippy of Saginaw. Grandchildren: Freddy, Jessica, Zachary, Wyatt, and Mason Shippy. Sister: Cheryl Sahin Preceded in death by his son, Fred Lyman Shippy and brother, Norman Shippy. Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2016 between 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon with service beginning at 12:00 noon at Michelson Memorial United Methodist Church.
