Frances "FRAN" Hebel

December 25, 1927 — September 7, 2016

Frances I. Hebel, 88, of Grayling passed away on September 7, 2016 to be with her Lord and Savior. She was born on December 25, 1927 in Richmond, MI to Bert and Wenona Plagens. Fran and her family moved to Maple Forest as a youth and lived in the Grayling area as well as Flint, Alaska, Florida and Alabama. She married Herman E. Hebel on February 14, 1946 in Richmond, MI. Fran attended the Grayling Free Methodist Church and various Bible study groups and civic organizations. She worked at Flint Hurley Hospital, obtaining degrees as a registered x-ray technician, isotope technologist, technologist of nuclear medicine and radiation technology. In addition, she worked for the Flint school system as a secretary. In her retirement, Fran and her sister in Chirst, Kathy Anderson, traveled to Europe and other countries extensively. But, her love of Alaska where she lived and worked far exceeded all other adventures and travels, returning 19 times to visit, hike and enjoy her many friends there. She is survived by her son, Gregg Hebel of Bay City, MI and FL; several grandchildren; great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and sister, Barbara (Ron) Larson of Grayling, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Wilbur, sister Opal V. Hamblin and sister in Christ, Kathleen E. Anderson. Visitation will be Sunday, September 11, 2016 from 2-4 pm at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 12, 2016 at 11:00 at the Grayling Free Methodist Church with Pastor Bob Marshall officiating. Memorials may be made to the Grayling Free Methodist Church Building Fund. Condolences can be made at Arrangements made by Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home.
