Edith Mae Lovely

Edith Mae Lovely went home to the Lord on December 15th, 2007. Edith Mae was born to Emil and Eva (Kestenholtz) Golnick on February 14, 1920 in Crawford County. She attended school in Roscommon and Grayling, graduating from Roscommon High School. She married Leo E. Lovely on June 18, 1938 and they were blessed with 69 years of marriage. During World War II, they lived in San Francisco the returned to Grayling to be near their family and friends. Surviving family members include her husband, Leo: Her six children Julie Ward of San Diego, CA; Michael (Kathy) Lovely; Kim Lovely; Mary Ruth (Allen) Lowe of Grayling Marcia (David) Etters of Jackson MI.; and David (Carol) Lovely of Grayling. Also surviving are 22 Grandchildren: Corinna Coram, Gil Ward, Mick Lovely, Dustin Lovely, Suzan Beattie, Kimberly Lovely and Todd Lovely, Amy Jo Anthony, Nicholas and Darcie Lovely, Phil, Kyrsta, Benjamin, Nathan and Lucas Lowe, James, Sarah and Julia Etters, Angeanette (Lovely) Zelek, Jonathan Lovely, Adam and Matt Birk. In addition 16 great grandchildren: Cathrine, Corinna Carston and Caitlyn Coram, Ashton and Parker Ward, Megan and Kaitlin Lovely, Alex Coatney, Eathan Beattie, HailleJane Lovely, Marshall Anthony, Isabel and Jackson Lowe, Cami Leray, Jacob and Caleb Lowe. Edith was well known in the community during her lifetime as a devoted mother. She was active in St. Mary's Parish, serving in many capacities and volunteering her services as needed. As the Director of the Crawford County Selective Service Board one of her duties was to register the draftees and with a heavy heart would accompany the young men to the bus station on their way to active duty. Before retirement Edith also worked at the Crawford County Health Department and could be often found assisting her husband, Leo in the County Clerks Office. She had a great sense of humor and compassion for others using both to encourage and comfort. She lived her life loving her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Edith will be remembered for her kind, generous and giving nature. Edith was preceded in death by her parents, three infant children and two grand children. Edith's celebration of life was held at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Tuesday December 18, at 11 am. Interment will be held in the spring.
