Dewain Allen Hall, 95, Grayling/Roscommon, died peacefully May 30, 2025 at the Brook, with his family at his side. A funeral service, with full military honors and Masonic service will be held Saturday, June 14, 2025 at Michelson Memorial United Methodist Church, Grayling, Michigan, at 11:00 a.m. Visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. Final resting place West Deerfield Cemetery, North Branch, Michigan.

He was born to William and Clella Hall in Cairo, West Virginia on November 3, 1929. He graduated from Gladwin Rural Schools and enlisted in the U.S. Army and served two tours in the Korean War, he then entered the Michigan National Guard, where he served until his retirement in 1985 as a Chief Warrant Officer 4. He and his two sons have a combine 87 years of military service.

He and Joann Lonsberry were married in Lapeer County on December 13, 1952.

He fought in the Bay City Section of the Golden Gloves Boxing where he had a 36-1 record. While in Korea he was introduced to Judo where he achieved the rank of 4th Degree Black Belt. Upon moving to Grayling he and Lee Parrent co-founded the Gray-Lee Judo Club where they taught and mentored hundreds of students.

He was a well-respected member of the Grayling community, being a member of the Michelson Memorial United Methodist Church for over 60 years, a member of the Grayling Shriners Organization, and the Masonic Lodge #356. He also participated in local bowling and golf leagues and organized and ran tennis and golf leagues in Florida, where he spent the winter months for over 35 years.

After his retirement he and his wife enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and the world. He was a member of the Northern Knight #107 Travel Club.

He was an avid deer hunter, once bagging 2 six point bucks the same day, but his favorite hobby was fishing small lakes all over northern Michigan and Canada. He is known to at times have bigger fish stories than his catch of the day.

Preceding him in death are his parents, his wife of 66 years, Joann in 2019, brothers John, Charles, and Glenn Hall, and sisters Catherine, Lenora, and Carlene Hall, and his fur baby Josh.

Surviving him are his sons Michael (Mary Beth) Hall of Jackson, Ronald (Kathy) Hall of Roscommon, brothers Robert Hall of Gladwin and Raymond Hall of California. Grandchildren Jessica (Jay) Ruddy, Jason (Jerica) Hall, Jordan ( Kristi) Hall, Heather Solares, Hope Melissa Harkey, and Stephanie (Rob) Matlock, great grandchildren Theo (Carrie) Kolka, Harlee, Andi & Natalie Hall, Madison Hall, Anza Solares, Zoe and Brandon Harkey, and Robert. Sydney and Sophia Matlock and great-great granddaughter Chloe Kolka.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Brook in Roscommon for their generous care, compassion and love and the staff of Optimum Hospice for their support and care and Clinton Ross of Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home for his compassion, help and professionalism.
