David Paul Bourgeois

David Paul Bourgeois, 71, of Bear Lake Township passed away peacefully Saturday, June 9, 2018 in Traverse City after bravely fighting cancer. David was born in Monroe, MI on March 20, 1947 to Francis & Cecilia Bourgeois. David lived the majority of his youth in Wyandotte, MI and moved away to serve his Country during the Vietnam War where he was stationed for the Navy in San Diego, CA. After his service was complete, David graduated from Wayne State University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and had a successful career in SE MI as a business leader working for several Architectural, Engineering and Construction firms including Giffels, Inc. and Walbridge. David was a truly talented man and had many hobbies which included painting, wood sculpting, cross country skiing, fishing, golfing, fly-tying, traveling, and watching the Red Wings or Tigers whenever they were playing. He loved being outside and spending time with his family and friends. David is survived by many who love him. His loving wife, Mary Margaret (Engel) Bourgeois. His children, Paul (Amy) Bourgeois and Nikki (Shane) Thellman. His grandchildren, Clayton, Jackson, Lucas and Tyler. His siblings, Patricia Renner and Jerome Bourgeois. His many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. To know David was to know a great person who lived life to the fullest and who cared deeply for those around him. Mass of Christian Burial will take place Saturday, June 16, 2018 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Grayling, MI with one hour visitation before. A luncheon will follow at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in memory of David.
