Daniel Henry Thomas Rice

October 4, 1954 — June 12, 2018

Daniel "Dan" Rice joined his wife Sharon in everlasting life on June 12th, 2018. Dan was born in Jackson, MI to Frank and Mary Rice. He left home and moved north to Grayling at 16 where he fell in love with the area and a short little lady. He was a devoted family man and is survived by his daughters Nicole (James) Owens of Frederic and Tanya Rice of Grayling. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Ben and Andy Owens as well as Daisi (Korey) Keegan and Daniel Rice. Great-granddaughter Isobel Keegan was the newest light in Dan's family tree. He also had two men that became brothers. Randy Rowlader and Jack Rabideau. Dan worked many different kinds of jobs whenever life demanded it. He was a cook, a forklift driver, a maintenance man and lumberyard foreman. Dan was an enthusiastic man that became absorbed in whatever hobby crossed his path. Gardening, fishing, hunting and coin collecting were just a couple of his favorites. Most notable was canoe racing. He loved to watch the races and then became involved in them, racing the MCRA circuit for around 6 years and attempting the AuSable River Canoe Marathon once before injury forced him to hang up his paddle. Before that though, he managed to pass along his love of the sport to his family who continue that legacy. Dan is preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Sharon as well as his Mother and Father in law Walter and Eleanor Roe and His parents Frank and Mary. Services will be held Friday, June 29th at 1pm at Sorenson-Lockwood funeral home.
