Arthur Edward Clough

September 13, 1957 — April 2, 2023

Arthur Edward Clough, 65, of Grayling, MI passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Sunday, April 2, 2023, after his battle with ALS.

Arthur, fondly known as Artie, was born to Arthur F. and Shirley Clough, on September 13, 1957, in Grayling, Michigan. He grew up living at the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office and after graduating from Grayling High School in 1975 he went on to pursue his career in law enforcement. Art started at the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office in 1978.

Art worked for the Hampton Township Police Department, Lake City Police Department, Grayling Police Department, Grayling Fire Department and Crawford County Sheriff’s Office. Art served his community in many different capacities including as a fire fighter, marine officer, snowmobile officer, dive team member, deputy, officer, sergeant, assistant fire chief, captain, and undersheriff. Art retired from the Sheriff’s Office in 2009 as captain but went back to work in 2010 for the Grayling Police Department and retired once again in 2017. Art worked for over 40 years in law enforcement and over 30 years as a volunteer fire fighter.

He has been a proud member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Shriners, Grayling Booster Club, Eagle’s, and additionally a Mason. There truly is no way to properly describe the impact that Art has made on Crawford County over the last 45 years.

While he loved his job, he also loved his family above all. He met his wife, Diane, in high school and spent over 45 years building a life with her. Their hobbies included alpine skiing every winter and spending time at their cabin in DeTour Village in the summer. Art also enjoyed the great outdoors and hobbies which include hunting, fishing, and boating to name a few.  He was a devoted father and grandfather and always willing to help in any capacity. He was very proud of both his sons, who are Army Combat Veterans. He will truly be missed and will never be forgotten.
