Obituary

Alan Max Etson, age 84, of Beaver Creek Twp, MI passed away unexpectedly at his home on March 9, 2026.

Alan was born in Flint, MI on July 6, 1941 to Jack and Madeline (Bush) Etson. Alan served in the United States National Guard for many years. He was very proud of his service in the military. He could often be found at the American Legion Post 106 in Grayling talking with the other members telling stories and just enjoying the camaraderie.

Alan was also a pool shark and a bit of a jokester. He enjoyed bowling in his younger years at the Eagles and volunteered whenever he could. He was a lifetime gold star member of the Eagles. He was also a 50 gallon blood drive donor which he was very proud of.

Alan is survived by his sons, William M. (Pam) Etson of Flint, MI and David A. Etson of Grayling, MI; step-daughter, Julie Chapman of Corunna, MI; grandchildren, Anthony Etson, Olivia Urlacher, Jack Etson, and Rosie Etson; brother, Howard R. Etson; and many supportive comrades of the legion and military. He is preceded in death by his brother Jack Etson and his parents.

A Celebration of Alan's Life with Military Honors will take place at the Grayling American Legion Post 106 on a date to be announced soon.
