Norman Ward Schmoock, 86, of Grayling, passed away on October 22, 2017. Norman was born in Detroit, MI on July 20, 1931, a son of the late Clara B. (Brandt) and Waldemar Schmoock. Norman married Shirley Dianne Newland on December 19, 1983. He served 34 years in the US Army and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. Some of Norm's activities include:President of Grayling Rotary Club 2002-2003; 25 years perfect attendance at the Grayling Rotary Club; Assistant Governor of District 6290, Au Sable River Region, Rotary International from 2009-2012; Lifetime member of the Military Officer's Association of America; Past President of the Michigan National Guard Retiree's Association and most recently served as the 2d Director 2012-2016; and Chair of the 182nd Field Artillery Regimental Association Memorial Committee He was a member of Michelson Memorial United Methodist Church. Norman enjoyed hunting, snowmobiling, and all things mechanical. Survived by his wife Shirley of nearly 34 years. Children: Stephen (Lynette) Schmoock; Bruce (Pam) Schmoock; Cynthia Mennicke; Sandra (Joe) Bannister; Lisa (Joe) Feistritzer; and Amy (Donald) Huff. 17 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by the Mother of his children Betty (Smith) Schmoock and his brother Martin "Pete" Schmoock. Visitation will be held at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home on Thursday, October 26, 2017, between 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Funeral Service with Military Honors will take place at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home on Friday, October 27, 2017 at 12 noon. Interment will be at Fort Custer National Cemetery at a later date. Family requests that in lieu of flowers, consideration be given to memorial contribution in Norm's memory to: Camp Grayling Officer's Club Fund c/o Capital Regional Community Foundation 330 Marshall Street Suite 300, Lansing, MI 48912.
