Nathan Andrew Haskel

January 26, 1984 — November 10, 2017

Nathan Andrew Haskel January 26, 1984 to November 9, 2017 On November 9, 2017, Nathan Andrew Haskel, beloved son of Thomas and Tina Haskel, passed from this earth on his own terms. Nathan's memory will be evoked every time a shooting star appears in the nighttime sky, with his vibrant persona shining brightly in the minds and thoughts of those whose life he touched. Nathan was born on January 26, 1984 in Midland, Michigan. He was raised in the Grayling community by his parents with the support of the entire Keir and Haskel extended family households. As a child he was inquisitive, energetic, caring and a little stubborn at times. Able to grow up in a rural area, Nathan experienced all of the wonderful aspects of small town life during his youth with a wide variety of friends. Nathan was a solid athlete with special abilities in the sports of football and wrestling. Playing for the local Grayling Redskins and Grayling Viking football teams, Nathan was described by one of his coaches as the toughest player on the team. He graduated from Grayling High School in 2002. In his adulthood Nathan worked primarily in the construction trades, most recently for McLain and Son Construction. He had graduated from the Kirtland Community College Welding Program with honors in 2015 and had hoped to one day acquire the requisite equipment to perform creative projects in that field. Nathan was zealous in rooting for Tom Brady and the New England Patriots and was an ardent fan of the Michigan Wolverine football team. Daring was a personality trait that defined his activities while loyalty to those he cared about was the strongest aspect of his character. With little fear for heights or danger, Nathan loved rock climbing, rappelling, and other adventurous endeavors. He was at home in the outdoors, always ready to go fishing, hiking and camping regardless of the season with friends and family. Nathan had a heart of gold and was so very kind and gentle when dealing with children and animals. A free spirit in life who marched to the beat of a different drummer, his soul is now resting in peace. Nathan was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents John and Evelyn Keir and paternal grandparents Robert and Joyce Haskel. He is survived by his parents Thomas and Tina Haskel; brothers Benjamin (Laura) Haskel and Jonathon (Cassy) Haskel; nephews Spencer, Connor, Ryder, and Evan; niece River; cousins Mandy and Raymond Trudgeon, Weston and Wesley Willoughby, John Lennon, Whitney and Dalton Keir, and Gage Albright; uncles and aunts including Andrew Haskel, Ann and Steve Ukropen, Rebecca Albright, Bruce and Beth Lennon, Jim and Sarah Lawless, Todd and Sharon Willoughby, Matt Keir, and Tom Trudgeon. Visitation will be held at the Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home on Thursday, November 16, 2017 between 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm. The Funeral Service will begin at 2:12 pm.
